Scriptwriting For a 3-Part Sarawak Road Trip Web Series (Including the Promo Video)

Tourism was all the rage as the post-pandemic era was rearing its thirsty head. This program was more targetted towards locals to encourage domestic travel and rural tourism 😎

Among the many tourism productions to have hit my desk, this was among the most memorable 😊 The project proposal was outstandingly detailed and chalked full of content 🤓 My contributions to the production were:

1. Copywriting for the Pitch Deck

2. Scriptwriting the Narration for the Episodes & Promo

3. Transcribing the Episodes

The script I prepared still underwent revisions between myself and our lead cast member as it was meant to appear partially scripted - if at all 😄

Tracing Traditions: Chinese New Year Documentary (Coming Soon)

My team sure loves documentaries! This instalment is one for the history buffs 🤓 It’s a journey through the many lost traditional Chinese arts. A host will visit different masters of different crafts and learn about their history, importance, AND technique 😉 That’s right! It’s a vicarious experience through the learning experience of the host.

For this production, I was assigned to design the pitch deck as well as the copywriting 😁

Usually, it would have aired by now (1 year later) but with all the many masters to schedule and film with, there’s been just the slightest delay. So, I'm not permitted to share the deck yet either. However, I can tell you it reminds me of the style from the work we did for a past production of ours 🧐

I need to be honest. The work I get related to politics is not my favourite but a job is a job 🤝 Nevertheless, I still genuinely appreciated the rare and unique learning experience 🙏

There was a lot of care in being mindful of any topics and scripting that could be salacious or controversial in the slightest 🤨 My boss and I brainstormed as much content as we could. Then, I threw it together into a pitch deck for the PR agency. Fast-forward to a couple of weeks and I had to get going on the scripted interview content ✍

Due to confidential reasons, I’m unable to share the pitch deck I worked on 🤐 Due to personal reasons, I prefer not to share/promote political content 😜 (regardless of the party).

Sarawak Tourism Board Chinese New Year Short Film 2022 (Simple Scripting & Copywriting)

This shoot was thrown together in quite the haste 😮 Honestly, that's just how some productions go... The entire video only needed general direction and ad-libbed moments. So, I simply played my part of:

1. Scripting the Deputy CEO's closing message

2. Writing the social media caption (Company's + Client's Accounts)

After the pleasing job of our Chirstmas collaboration, they requested me to do the copywriting again 😆

LONGi Sarawak Corporate Video (My First Technical Script)

Let's face it. Corporate videos can be.... dry. With very specifically requested keywords and technical jargon, I took it as a welcomed scriptwriting challenge. For this project, I simply partook in:

1. Scriptwriting

2. Crafting the interview questions (for the CEO's segment)

2. Content research

Plus, I was certainly more biasedly motivated as the client was a solar panel manufacturer 😏🌞 Go green tech!

Kuching Tourism Promo Video (One of My Favourite Productions)

This project had me working overtime 😅 It was an interesting period to be producing a tourism video during the COVID-19 pandemic's second wave. So many locations were suddenly shut down (again)😮We had to get creative in sourcing different ways of throwing together the footage.

One of the things that really made me enjoy this project was how our creative director drew the video's inspiration from a smartphone commercial. We got to integrate and elevate the concept by representing each unique selling point as a tourist character 😀😎 It certainly made for a more unique scriptwriting task. Most of all, I'll never forget those gruelling hours I spent before finally coming up with the tagline that made my boss go "Yesss! That's the one!" 😆 It's really the simplest lines that are the most challenging 😜

I hope viewers enjoy it as much as I do. (at least, compared to the many conventional tourism video formats)

This was the 1st time I'd seen my proposal design caught my boss's eye (or so she expressed) 🙏 Small words of affirmation from superiors don't come by easily... so, I appreciate the wonderful work environment I have ❣

Last season's episodes were centred around the different local Chinese dialects and how they celebrate the Lunar New Year through food. THIS SEASON, each episode was tied to a quintessential ingredient for the new year's festivities.

Our Pandemic Awareness Video (My First Time Voice Acting)

I cringe at my voice but it was still exciting to try out voice acting. Our creative director actually took inspiration for the concept from a Nike video 😁

Also, I wasn't told I'd do the voiceover while writing the script. Recording the audio and taking my director's notes were... an experience 😅 Capturing the nuance of the voice acting was certainly a challenge between balancing a very cold tone with a hopeful build-up.

This was sort of just a fun but important side project as many projects were on

hold from the second wave of the pandemic.

Borneo Made Documentary Proposal (And Why It Didn't Get Picked Up)

With so many competing studios, sometimes you're just bound to end up with the same ideas. So, in the race for the pitch... we were just slightly edged out this time 😯*snaps fingers* 🥴

Nevertheless, this was one of my first proposals that I was quite excited to work on with my boss - especially because his passion for documentaries is so spirited 🤩 We were excited about the episodes we planned out 🤓 Not to mention, this was one of the first proposals I got to design on top of my usual job of copywriting and producing.

Even though it never got picked up, I will always remember this project fondly.

Storyboarding & Shot Planning for a Large-scale Corporate Video Production

Brainstormed ideas

This project was the first major pre-production assignment I'd had as an intern. I worked with our production manager and producer to shoot reference photos and brainstorm appropriate shots for an upcoming Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) video.

It was quite the blast despite needing to plan over 80 different shots! 😆 From emergency fire procedures to cyber security and everything in between was covered. 🤓Then, I sourced our storyboard artist for the project. Later, I used the shots to create an animatic for the presentations/meetings with the client 😉

In such a huge company, we had quite a few revisions from the all-too-many department heads weighing in with their varying priorities 😅

I wish I had the animatic to share but that's private and confidential...
